First make the two quotes comparable
Compare the same departure dates, number of travellers and room basis. Check whether each price is per person or for the whole booking. A couple comparing a per-person triple-sharing headline with a total private-room quote is not comparing the same arrangement.
Next, identify where each package begins. From Delhi should be clarified into an actual transport arrangement. A Goa land package starting at a hotel or local pickup point can have a very different total cost from a package that includes the journey from Delhi.
Use a complete cost worksheet
| Budget line | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Package | The current price for your exact dates and room choice |
| Compulsory additions | Any tax or required charge not already included |
| Journey to the start | Tickets and local transfers you arrange yourself |
| Meals outside the package | Your realistic allowance for meals not listed as included |
| Activities and tickets | Only the optional experiences you intend to buy |
| Personal spending | Shopping and other discretionary expenses |
| Contingency | A separate buffer that suits your circumstances |
Use zero only when a cost is genuinely included or not needed. Mark an unknown as to confirm rather than quietly treating it as free. Avoid counting the same transfer or meal twice.
A worked example, not a travel quote
Imagine a fictional quote of INR 8,000 per person. Suppose your local pickup/drop travel is INR 600, excluded meals are budgeted at INR 900, and you choose INR 700 of optional activities. The planned spend is INR 10,200 before a buffer. With an illustrative INR 800 buffer, you would set aside INR 11,000.
These figures demonstrate the calculation only. They are not RARA prices, typical market costs or a quote for any destination. Replace every line with confirmed information for your own dates.
Package + compulsory additions + separately arranged transport + excluded meals + chosen activities + personal spending.
Amount to set asidePlanned total + your contingency buffer.
Room sharing can change the price
Ask for the price of the room arrangement you intend to book. Starting from may refer to a different occupancy from the one you want. Check whether single occupancy is available, whether a supplement applies for the whole journey or each night, and what happens if a sharing arrangement changes.
For two people, confirm both the per-person figure and the booking total. Ask whether an extra bed, mattress or different room category changes the cost. Keep the answer with your quote.
An included transfer has boundaries
Check the start and end points, travel dates and timings covered by each transfer. A station pickup is not necessarily an airport pickup. A scheduled group transfer may not cover a traveller arriving at a different time.
For an independently booked flight or train, calculate baggage, onward travel and any extra stay you may need because of arrival times. Ask what happens if your connection is delayed, and confirm the group departure before buying a separate non-refundable journey.
Optional experiences need a decision
Separate an activity being mentioned in the itinerary from it being included in the price. Ask whether entry tickets, equipment, local transport or a guide are additional. Then decide whether the experience is important enough to include in your budget.
If you do not want an optional activity, ask how that affects the day's arrangements. You may still need a meal or local journey while the rest of the group participates. The aim is to make your own plan explicit, not to buy everything listed.
Ask for the final payable amount
Request an itemized current quote, the deposit amount, balance due date and cancellation terms. Ask which parts are confirmed and which depend on availability. Keep prices and dates together, especially for holiday travel.
When you contact RARA, include your destination, dates, number of travellers and room preference. Ask which operator will provide the trip and request the exact inclusions before booking. A useful quote should make it possible to complete this worksheet without guessing.
Your next trip starts with a conversation
Make the plan fit you.
Tell us your dates, destination or shortlist, and how many people are travelling. Ask for the available plan, full cost and room arrangements.
Opening WhatsApp does not send a message or confirm a booking. Availability, price and the operating company will be confirmed before you book.
