At a glance

  • This is a checking guide, not a live road-status bulletin.
  • A forecast, a road restriction and a driver's plan answer different questions.
  • An unavailable or outdated report means the status remains unconfirmed.

Start with official information for your exact route

For Himachal Pradesh, start with the IMD Shimla regional service. For Uttarakhand, use IMD Dehradun and the USDMA information hub. Look for the forecast or warning covering your district and travel period. USDMA also provides links to state information services, including road information.

For restrictions, use the relevant district administration, police or public works authority's official updates. Follow links from government sites rather than trusting an account just because its name contains a destination. These starting points were checked on 6 October 2026. We are not reporting current road clearance here.

Keep three different checks separate

CheckWhat it answersWhat it does not establish
IMD forecast or warningExpected weather, affected area and valid periodWhether a particular road is open
Official road or traffic noticeA named restriction, closure or operating instructionThat the full journey will stay unaffected
Operator and driver confirmationYour vehicle, route, accommodation and revised arrangementsPermission to ignore an official restriction

A clear destination forecast does not settle conditions on roads you cross to reach it. Equally, rain in one district should not be presented as proof that every destination in the state has the same conditions. Ask about the journey outward and the return, including the final approach to your accommodation.

Read the issue time and validity, not just the screenshot

Open the original notice. Record its issue date and time, the period it covers, the affected road or district, and the stated restriction. A screenshot forwarded today may describe an earlier event. Check whether a later notice updates or replaces it. Do not treat a recycled video, a map application's suggested route or another traveller's successful journey as official clearance.

If an official page fails to load or has no recent entry, the missing information does not mean the road is open. Ask the operator to identify the relevant authority and obtain clarification through published official contact channels. When sources disagree, keep the question unresolved until the latest applicable instruction is clear.

Build a route worksheet before the group departs

Route segmentRecord before travel
Delhi NCR pickup to mountain gatewayPlanned route, departure time and current traffic instructions
Gateway to the destinationNamed road segments, official source, notice time and restrictions
Destination to the propertyVehicle access, last transfer and luggage arrangements
Optional outingSeparate access check and a plan if it cannot run
Return journeyReview time, onward connection and room for delay

Give each check an owner and a review time. Revisit the information close to departure and whenever conditions or official instructions change. Saving the source link alongside a screenshot makes it easier for the group to check an update.

Agree what happens if the plan changes

Ask who makes the departure decision, when travellers will be notified, and whether postponement, cancellation or a shorter itinerary is available. Get the cost treatment for extra accommodation, replacement transport and omitted activities in writing. Separate tickets booked by individual members need their own change checks.

Do not improvise a detour around a closure on the strength of an online comment. If the route or its restrictions cannot be confirmed, ask for a revised or postponed plan rather than treating uncertainty as approval. Read our weather-related booking questions before paying.

Send a precise enquiry

Share your travel dates, pickup area, destination, proposed property location, party size and return deadline. Ask RARA for the operating company, the planned route, the source of the latest checks and the options if the trip changes. This creates a useful planning conversation; an enquiry response is not a replacement for official travel instructions.

Your next trip starts with a conversation

Make the plan fit you.

Tell us your dates, destination or shortlist, and how many people are travelling. Ask for the available plan, full cost and room arrangements.

Opening WhatsApp does not send a message or confirm a booking. Availability, price and the operating company will be confirmed before you book.
